Final Stretch to June 7 – Honors, Progress, and the Power of Persistence

Dear MJTP families,
I hope you're all enjoying a safe and sunny Memorial Day with family and friends. We all need a break to remember the things that matter, and I hope you take a much deserved break today.
📘 Word of the Day: Spurious
adjective — false or fake; not what it appears to be
Example: The student quickly identified the spurious answer choices by eliminating those not supported by the passage.
Use this on your SAT and in life—don't be fooled by spurious claims, whether they're in a tricky reading passage or a random TikTok "hack."
Student Spotlight: Sailing to Success
A huge congratulations to one of our standout students who recently received top honors at her local sailing awards ceremony! Her hard work, leadership, and discipline—on the water and in her studies—are a reminder that success comes to those who stay the course. We're proud to support students who pursue excellence in every arena.
Camper wants to share this with the community:
Yesterday evening, I had the privilege of attending the Awards Banquet for my sailing team with my friends, family, and teammates. It is my honor to receive the Sportsmanship Award. Furthermore, I received 2nd place in our Series Races. Throughout the High School Sailing season, we sail races against our own team and are scored individually. I am proud to share second place with my friend Nicholas. Lastly, I recieved a paper plate award for “Most likely to turn a downwind into a front flip,” an incident that happened at a regatta with my crew, Tessa!
I could not have accomplished anything without my teammates, coaches, and my family. This year has been a whirlwind, especially with our sailing season being postponed due to hurricanes. I am grateful to the Venice Youth Boating Association and everyone who makes sailing possible!
“Sportsmanship and teamwork are at the heart of the VYBA mission. This award is reserved for a sailor who goes above and beyond; not just for their teammates, but for the entire VYBA community. This year’s recipient has demonstrated an exceptional willingness to help others; often taking time to teach and support her peers-without ever being asked. Her dedication to lifting others up is truly inspiring and something we deeply value in our program. What sets this sailor apart is her consistent display of fairness, honesty, respect, and responsibility -the four pillars of sportsmanship. Whether on land or on the water, she is a role model for what it means to be a teammate, a leader, and a good sport. It is my great honor to present the 2025 Sportsmanship Award to Camper.”
-Miss Yvonne, Executive Sailing Director of Venice Youth Boating Association
As an online tutor, I don't get the opportunity to meet many of my students, but my wife and I had the honor of meeting Camper last month at her final regatta of the season. We were both over the moon to connect with her and her family.

Score Growth Shoutout: Anshul's Big Jump
Welcome back to Anshul, who’s gearing up for the June 7th SAT after already achieving a 90-point improvement in just four lessons with us last December—rising from a 620 to a 710 on the Verbal section. Anshul’s story is proof that focused, personalized prep can lead to real, measurable gains. Let’s keep that momentum going!
Gratitude: Choosing the Hard Work Path
To every student who’s joined me this year—thank you. You’ve chosen not just to “do SAT prep,” but to pursue excellence. You’re showing up, putting in the work, and learning how to think critically under pressure. I’m honored to be your guide.
Two Weeks Out: Lock In. Let’s Go.
We're 👌🏻 close to the June SAT. It's one more opportunity to prove to yourself you're capable of overcoming a tough obstacle; one more chance to show the College Board who's boss; and one more shot at shaping your future and opening doors. Let's lock in and make the sacrifices to prep wisely and with tenacity.
That means it's time to:
- Push Harder! Consistency is key – don't let up on the daily drills.
- Review what you’ve learned
- Process the mistakes you've made
- Repeat
This is the moment to double down. Smart, steady effort over these next two weeks can be the difference between a good score and a great one. Reach out if you have any questions or concerns on what you're studying.
Onward,
Mr. John
